Qu’est-ce que c’est le passé composé?
Le passé composé (the preterit or compound past) allows us to describe actions in the past. In order to learn about the preterit or le passé composé we need to remember that it is formed using 2 verbs:
1) An auxiliary: L’auxiliaire Avoir or Être* (conjugated based on the subject of the sentence) and
2) A past participle: Le participe passé is made from a form of the infinitive of the verb.
Which verbs use the “auxiliaire Avoir” and which ones use “the auxiliaire Être”? find out in this acronym:
We use the auxiliary Être for DR & MRS VANDERTRAMP
