French Circles Level 6

Welcome to French Circles Level 6. You are not anymore a a beginner! You know how to express yourself (Oral and writing) in French but you want to improve your French Skills.  You’ve built a strong foundation, and now it’s time to fine-tune your French! In this level, you’ll become more independent in conversations, write with more depth, and understand more advanced texts and audio.

During this sixth course you will explore idiomatic expressions, argument structure, and different styles of communication, preparing you for upper-intermediate mastery. You will gain more confidence into the French language each step. This is a conversational course so we encourage you to participate actively in the program.

Materials:

A binder with a notebook, handouts, a CD and a booklet named “Study Notes” will be provided by your teacher at the beginner of the class. Please keep the “Study Guide” in your binder at all times.

Class:

The teacher will focus on your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. During class you will work with the teacher, alone as well as with classmates. You will be expected to:

  • Participate in a positive way and accept the challenges of learning and using a new language: French.
  • Contribute to class practices in a personal and meaningful manner.
  • Demonstrate tolerance, patience and courtesy towards your classmates and teacher.

Your progress will be based on homework, assessment and participation.

Throughout your French course, we will be sharing with you links related to the class of such week. These links will be useful and fun resources that can be used by you in your free time. Additionally, using these free resources, will be as of great help for preparing you for the following weeks’ quiz, dictation and lesson.

What to expect from French Circles Level 6

By the end of this level you will be able to communicate in the following areas:

Listening:

  • You will be able to understand authentic spoken French in interviews, podcasts, and short documentaries.
  • You will recognize tone, mood, irony, and subtleties in formal and informal speech.
  • You will be able to follow complex discussions involving comparisons, hypotheses, and opinions.
  • You will recognize nuanced uses of tenses (imparfait vs passé composé, plus-que-parfait, futur simple, conditionnel, subjonctif).

Speaking:

  • You will be able to speak naturally in detailed conversations, even on unfamiliar topics.
  • You will be able to argue a point of view, express doubts, confirm information, and persuade others.
  • You will be able to use idiomatic expressions, logical connectors (cependant, donc, en revanche, d’ailleurs…) and rhetorical devices.
  • You will confidently use various moods (indicative, imperative, conditional, and subjunctive in set expressions).

Writing:

  • You will be able to write structured arguments, and descriptive or narrative texts using a wide range of grammar and vocabulary.
  • You will be able to compare, contrast, and defend your opinions with examples.
  • You will apply more complex grammar structures (e.g., relative clauses, object pronouns, negation nuances).
  • You will be able to combine present, past, and future tenses within the same text smoothly.
  • You will be able to take notes on presentations on a different topics.

Reading:

  • You will be able to understand articles, short opinion pieces, and adapted literary texts at an A2 + level.
  • You will be able to infer meaning from context and understand tone and intention in a text.
  • You will recognize stylistic differences between formal and informal writing.
  • Your vocabulary will expand to 1000–1500 words, including expressions for emotions, comparisons, and transitions.

Homework:

 Because all students learn in different ways, in our class you will learn how to use various strategies to learn the French language. Therefore, Homework will be assigned each week.

Don’t forget to complete and check the homework assigned by submitting your dictations, readings and vocabularies using the buttons below. It will be based on the lesson of the day, including speaking practices, memorizing vocabulary and grammatical structures as well as creative writing assignments according to your level.  Put quality and time into your studies.

Quizzes and test:

Also, there is a Quiz or a dictation at the beginning of each class and a test every 3 weeks. Tests are important to learn a new language because they help you to practice and to test yourself. Take our Online Free French Tests as many times as you need to and keep practicing.
