1. Emmener – to take (verbe transitif)

EXAMPLES:

2. Apporter – to bring (verbe transitif)

DEFINITION: Porter quelque chose avec soi quelque part

Apporter: prendre avec soi et porter au lieu où est quelqu’un ou quelque chose un objet inanimé ou un objet animé qui ne peut se mouvoir.

USE: We use it for objects. On apporte quelque chose.

Apporter is used when you focus on the destination: it means to carry an object or a person who cannot move to a place.

EXAMPLES:

Allez me chercher cette pomme et apportez-la-moi.
Go and get me this apple and bring it to me.

Apporte du café à la reunion, s’il te plaît.
Please bring coffee to the meeting.

3. Emporter – to take (verbe transitif)

DEFINITION: Porter quelque chose avec soi quelque part

Apporter: prendre avec soi

USE: We use it for objects. On emporte quelque chose.

Emporter is used when you focus on the point of departure: it means to leave a place while carrying an object or a person who cannot move.

DEFINITION: Bring something back (to return)

USE: We use it for objects. On rapporte quelque chose.

Rapporter is used to bring something back (to return).

EXAMPLES:

Elle rapporte les livres empruntés à la bibliothèque. (Présent)
She brings the books back to the library.
