TCF Canada Oral Expression general description:
- This oral production test lasts 10 minutes.
- It is a 3-part interview.
- The interview takes place without preparation.
- The interview is recorded. Your interview will be evaluated twice: once here, on site, and once at France Education International. Please note that once the recording has started, it cannot be stopped.
- At any time, you can ask to repeat or rephrase a word or a question.
TCF Canada Oral Expression has 3 tasks:
Task 1 (Tâche 1):
Directed interview without preparation.
Duration of the exchange: 2 minutes
Task objective: the candidate demonstrates his/her ability to interact with an unknown person (the examiner).
Task 2 (Tâche 2):
Interaction exercise with preparation.
Duration of the exchange: 5 minutes 30
- Preparation: 2 minutes
- Duration of the exchange: 3 minutes 30
Task objective: The candidate demonstrates the ability to obtain information in an everyday situation. The status of the interlocutor and of the candidate is specified in the instructions.
The candidate is allowed to take short notes during the preparation time of the task.
Task 3 (Tâche 3):
Expression of a point of view without preparation.
Duration of the exchange: 4 minutes 30 min.
Task objective: The candidate demonstrates the ability to speak spontaneously, continuously, and convincingly in response to a question selected by the examiner.
In the TCF Canada test, you are evaluated on your ability to:
- Speak about yourself, your family and professional environment
- Ask questions adapted to the proposed communication situation
- Give your opinion and explain the advantages and disadvantages of a project, express your agreement and disagreement present a clear and structured argument in a style appropriate to the context
- Present complex subjects in a detailed and structured way, develop them and conclude.

How long does it take you to prepare and to pass the test?
It depends from where you are starting and how many hours you are planning to study per week and also what do you want to achieve. (CLB 5, CLB 7)
Here some escenarios for CLB 5:
Escenario A:
If you are starting from 0 and you are planning to study 10-12 hrs a week you will need about 8 to 10 months.
Escenario B:
You are also starting from scratch but you can study more time 15-20 hrs a week, It will take less time .That is around 5 to 7 months.
Escenario C:
If you have some knowledge of French ( let’s say DELF A1 level or NCLC level 3) You will need between 3 to 5 months to Achieve CLB 5. ( If you study 15-20 hrs a week)
