Lyrics : Qui a le droit

French English
They told me, “Don’t ask yourself too many questions.”
You know, little one, it’s life that answers you.
What good is it wanting to know everything?
Look up and see what you can see.
On m’avait dit : Faut écouter son père. They told me we had to listen to our fathers.
But mine didn’t say anything when he left.
Maman m’a dit : T’es trop petite pour comprendre. Mom told me, “You are too little to understand.”
And I grew up with a place to take.
Qui a le droit? qui a le droit? Who has the right? Who has the right?
Qui a le droit de faire ça Who has the right to do this
A un enfant qui croit vraiment To a child who truly believes
C’ que disent les grands What the grownups say
On passe sa vie à dire merci, We spend our life saying thank you—
Merci à qui?, à quoi ? Thank you to whom? For what?
A faire la pluie et le beau temps For dictating the rain and good weather
For the children that they lie to.
They told me that men were all alike.
There are many gods, but only one sun!
Yes, but the sun, it shines or it burns.
You die of thirst or you well drink bubbles.
A toi aussi, j’ suis sur qu’on t’en a dit, You too, I’m sure they told you this,
Beautiful stories, you say—what silliness!
Alors maintenant, on s’ retrouve sur la route, Well now, we find each other on the way
With our fears, our anguish, and our doubts.
For what?
A faire la pluie et le beau temps For dictating rain and good weather
For the children to whom we lie to.
